"Under the Sea" 8x16 oil by Leslie Newman

The spunky little sea horse is heading to Denver next week.

It is going to be hanging in the nursery of a darling little baby boy,

Wesley James. Wesley is the first Grandchild of my BFF.

They are doing his nursery in a nautical/sea theme. His Momma wanted

a sea horse, so I made up a little scene with this sea horse and a few fish 

friends. I have included a few mackerels, snappers, and a shark. I 

also added some seaweed and coral.This

painting has a lot of texture which looks appropriate for 

fish, shells, sand and of course, sea horses!  

This painting is part of a painting challenge of 30 paintings in 30 days. I

have not been able to keep up with it this time. I have done Leslie Saeta's 30

day challenges in the past, and I think I was

able finish 25 one month. So this month I am just doing 

what I can, when I am able to.

As you might be able to tell by now, I paint a wide variety of subjects.

 Portraits, pets,still life's to landscapes. I now add a "under the sea" scape!

"L Squared abstract" oil 48"x48" by Leslie Newman

This painting was really fun to do. i am appreciating 

abstract work the older I get. This is large at 4 ft square.I had

posted this painting previously last fall. Recently I made

some changes to it and added darker values of the deeper oranges

and Browns to it. After looking at it hanging several weeks I determined

those darker values needed to be added. So, I brought my palette to the

breakfast room wall and painted away! I realize I   

cropped it a tiny bit off on the sides, but you can get the idea here of the

colors and values. I titled this

painting L Squared, as there are numerous L's. right side up, up side down,

side ways etc. This painting hangs on a large plain wall that is a taupe/chocolate

brown. These changes really helped strengthen the painting.

Thanks for taking a look at my paintings. I am back painting after taking a few weeks

off during the Holidays. I am now adding more work,little by little.

Trio of Abstracts

Here I have hung all three of the recently posted paintings.

It starts with my abstract of a waterfall or water flowing down

the fronts of rocks, frozen white. So prevalent in our area

right now. Then it moves to what I perceive as some waves

crashing at the shoreline. The final abstract painting in this

series shows swirling waters at the base of a rocky cliff or calm beach

area.

I love how these all work together in one grouping showing how I

visualize the water in various forms!

"Abstract Surf" 6x6 oil on canvas by Leslie Newman

Abstract Surf

This small painting is the final of three abstract water themed paintings

all done at the same time.

I am joining in on the 30 paintings in 30 days

challenge by Palette knife artist Leslie Saeta from Pasadena, CA.

.

While I have done her challenges in the past, I have 

fallen short in being caught up day to day with this one.

So, I do what I can and enjoy it without putting too much pressure on myself. 

I enjoyed these as they are a totally different style for me

rather than the usual impressionism.

This painting shows what I envision as being a quieter surf, swirling and rolling

near a rocky ledge or shoreline.

I will post a picture of all three paintings hanging together.

I hope you enjoyed this small abstract series, it was quite 

fun to do.

Wave abstract 6x6 oil by Leslie Newman

 

This abstract painting reminds me of ocean waves. The foaming

Tops spilling over below. Some of the water in shadow below 

And in-between. The swirling mid tones of the greys, blues,

greens and touches of gold.

It works with my posting from yesterday. Not only because of the

Colors but because of the water and texture

Abstract Waterfall 6x6 extra deep panel, oil by Leslie Newman

Abstract Waterfall

This is about the 5th painting I have done this month. Not quite on

track. There is life that happens, appointments, babysitting grand kiddos and to be a

little honest..... some burnout from so much painting leading up to the

Holidays. Will I get 30 paintings done in this 30 in 30 day challenge, No...and

that is OK!

This painting I did and I love it. I used the deep almost black indigo blues and

the deep teal blues, I also have used white representing the waters with some

metallic gold/copper. 

I am really starting to enjoy abstract work over the past yr or so. I did a

very large 4 ft square that I have in my breakfast room that

is completely a contemporary abstract. It is a breath of

fresh air with all of the other types of traditional and impressionistic oils

that I have in our home. I am going to have two other paintings that will

go with the above abstract and using some lighter colors. This

reminds me of some of the many rock hillsides we have here in 

Arkansas. They pop up everywhere, I notice them along the roads. Icy waters will 

trickle or pour out based on what our weather has been. If it is very cold,

it will freeze midstream and look like this.

Birds of a feather 5x7 oil by Leslie Newman

Birds of a feather

These two fine feathered friends are

sitting on a branch together, with their eyes on something.

I painted them for our almost 7 month old granddaughter, Lottie.

These are the colors in her nursery.She has a little bird theme with
gorgeous colors of
yellow oranges and turquoises.
                                 I spotted a picture of these birds                                
online and just had to paint them!

I was able to frame this painting in a wide bright yellow custom frame.
It looks charming in her room. It is mature enough that she will be able to
keep it and enjoy it for yrs to come!


This is the 4th painting in the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge

Day 4 of 30 paintings in 30 days challenge by

I got busy over the weekend

and missed day 3, but I am still continuing on!

This painting I started at a workshop with Master

Oil Painter, Scott Mattlin during August of this yr .

That is actually my own blue tea pot, big copper bowl, and

large bouquet of hot Pink Bougainvillea's.

I hadn't had a chance to finish it until a few days ago.

So this is my 3rd entry to the 30 day Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

This is day 2 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge by Leslie

Saeta. I have participated in her challenges several times 

before. completing some challenges more than others! 

This is a painting of a sweet pose of our middle granddaughter.

We had taken her up to our open air shopping promenade to Build A Bear 

 She was playing in the fountains and pools of water in 

the cement ponds, under the close attention of  her

Poppie. That is what she calls my hubby.

. Some were wishing wells, some fountains. Anyway, she

was just enchanted with the water. She referred to

the water as "The Ocean.''

Now keep in mind she is only 2 1/2, and has never

been to the ocean, but she believes she has found it with these

water features! Such a little darling and so darn funny!

I was having so much fun taking dozens of pictures of her with the

sun hitting the top of her hair,turning it a light golden white. I found

my favorite picture and painted it for my Son and his wife. They

were just delighted to receive it last week!
